Product Details
The „Donnerbüchse“ (or „Donnerwagen“ / „Thunderbox“) refers to the two-axle passenger coaches of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, first built in 1921, and made entirely of steel, unlike their wooden
predecessors. The name "Donnerbüchse" comes from the loud noise these vehicles produced due to a lack of insulation.
The Cid-27 version was a type of all-steel coach produced between 1927 and 1928. It had 66 seats and 440 units were manufactured. The Personenwagen Cid-27 was part of an "Austauschbau"
(standardized replacement construction) series, meaning it was built with interchangeable parts, which was a common design approach during that period.
The last Donnerbüchsen coaches were used by the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) until the late 1970s, while in Poland they remained in passenger service until 1989.
